First Day in the Ward
k. think i must explain y i only started this blog after being persuaded by the bbt gang for such a long time..
i start this blog mainly to keep a record of the experiences that i have in the hospital.. (haha mayb next time will be able to publish "Touched By a Nurse 2"?) yes.. i'm a NUS nursing undergrad year 1.. have just been posted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital yesterday for clinical attachment..
so let me start with yesterday, Day 1- 25/09/06: First Day in TTSH
Reached Novena MRT Stn and went TTSH with Amy and Evon (my dear clazmates).. was quite surprised that nobody actualli 打量 at me when i was on the bus and MRT.. Evon was quite surprised too. Mayb they thought we're breadtalk workers?!
went toilet to bun up my hair but failed. was quite untidy. saw Gender after that and soon the rest came.. was abit nervous and ended up with stomachache. -____-"
met Lay Hoon, the in-charge of this clinical attachment, and we went for a 'seminar' which i almost fell asleep in. opps.
went for lunch.. gosh the kopitiam was so crowded during lunchtime.. realli wondered y cos the food isn't v cheap. luckily there's staff price. somehow we missed NUS cheap and quite nice food..
after lunch was a short talk, afterwhich we went for a tour arnd TTSH and the first stop was the mortuary. Was quite scared initally. We went arnd TTSH after that and were dismissed after the tour. bought Mr. Bean de tou huay. yummY~
Day 2- 26/09/06: First Day in Ward 5B
Met Amy at Novena MRT Stn and went TTSH tgt. Amy told me sth shocking. Chi Ching told her one of our fellow clazmates in NUH was sponging a patient when the patient suddenly passed away.. Was quite shocked.. and there were some cases of collapse too..
went to Ward 5B for the first time. was introduced to Sister Kala and was left in Ward 5B with only Daniel cos Yiwen 's sick. We were brought arnd the ward, and finally i was attached to a NYP year 2 nurse (and i forgot her name le =X). the first thing i did this morning- changed diaper and sponging. The patient was quite cooperative. A good experience i must say.
Saw our preceptor- Ridwan. A nice guy who stayed back to train us a little even though his shift is over. can see he is really tired. realli motivated me.
Observed quite alot today too- putting the urosheath, off catheter, observed how Daniel take vital signs (at the same time revise too).. Did bed-making, saw the dinamap (a machine used to measure bp, pulse, SpO2 etc). Played a little with the dinamap too (took my own SpO2 and heartrate).
But there's one thing which i dun understand. do i look like china girl??? there was this cute ah ma who said my name was nice and asked me whether i was from China.. lol. Amy and Evon said i looked like China girl too.
Hang arnd the ward looking at some patients' clinical chart and observed how a SN do the discharge stuff b4 going to tutorial room for 'talk' by Joanna and Mary.
So on the whole, guess today was quite fruitful. At least had some hands on.. Quite tired tho but guess slowly will get use to it. Hope so. =) =)
