first day in labour ward, i almost cried when i saw the baby being delivered alive.
second day in labour ward, i almost cried again when i saw the baby being delivered dead (it was an intrauterine death at 26 weeks).

2 days of attachment in the labour ward has sort of made the picture in my head clearer, of where i want to head in at least the next 3 years. why should i be worried that my clinical skills won't be on par with the experienced midwifery trained staff in the labour ward? I'm sure they have put in a lot of hard work before they can get the respect from the doctors... the emotions that i have experienced these 2 days- the happiness of bringing a new life into the world, the support to be given to the mother in the most painful moment of her life, are the emotions that i want to experience everyday, definitely not entertaining some patients who think that they must get the most out of the service they paid for. and with the skills, i'm sure i can do more meaningful things outside of this little red dot...

I'm not a person who can ignore patients' call because i still have other work to do.
I can tolerate patients complaints, but I cant tolerate poor working relationships among colleagues.
I cannot tolerate inconsistency.
I cannot tolerate senior staff who don't know their work well, yet like to pick about the simplest mistake junior staff made. I cannot find a reason to respect them.
I do not mind being scolded if I made a mistake, but I cannot stand being told off when there's no reason at all.
I cannot stay in a place where I'm not happy at all.

if you take pride in whatever you do, is there a need to grumble/complain? One year as a nurse, i've learnt that work is never ending. why dont you spend the time concentrating on your work rather than thinking and grumbling about the never ending work?

i hope i won't be a grumpy nurse 10 years down the road.

things happen for a reason. within the week that i am feeling very pessimistic about nursing, two very sick patients thanked me by my name. the kind of "thank you" filled with sincerity, telling you that they are sorry for troubling you, but grateful to you for being there for them. it reminded me that i dont hate nursing. i just hate how nurses are being treated in Singapore.

it takes two hands to clap but one hand to slap. i guess we can't only blame the public, other healthcare professionals or even our own big bosses. No use complaining how fed up we are among ourselves in our small little world, yet displaying a happy and contented image in the public, telling people that nurses are happy people. no use complaining among ourselves about the lack of respect when we don't have the professional image and knowledge that we are supposed to have in the first place. no use when the media reports thingS that are not reflective of the nursing in Singapore at all. nursing in Singapore will probably remain as what it is even after hundred of years.

i am only going to give myself 10 years (at most) here. if nothing happens, probably i should not think about contributing to a change, but think about making a change in my life.

i've had enough of all this shit. as nurses, would we want to see harm being done to our patients? if we want, we wont be in healthcare! when things happen, people will only remember to push the blame to others. will they remember what the good things that others have done for them? we all know nothing is perfect in this world. but who really understands that nothing is perfect in this world? doctors save lives, and everyone respects doctors. even if there's a small error, as long as it's not life-threatening and it's salvaged, doctors are still great. but who actually knows how the patients of some doctors always develop complications after a surgery, leaving all the shit for the nurses and other healthcare professionals to clean? i dont know. i only know that nurses are always being blamed for things that are carried forward, because nurses are the only people always there for the patients, so, sadly always there to take the blame as well.
it's hard to be cheerful in nursing, even for an optimistic person like me. i might appear be knocking off happily today for completing everything at the end of the shift, but some things might have also started boiling, waiting to explode when i return for work the next day, next week or even next year. because there're simply too many things for us to know in this world, and as long as you are a human, you will expect every healthcare professional to know it, even if it's not their discipline. then i ask, will a chinese teacher know every single idiom, or even every single chinese character that exists in this world? it's probably forgivable if he/she doesnt know, because we all know that there're too much knowledge in the Chinese language, probably more than medical knowledge? yeah, maybe?
my preceptor always tell me not to be too perfectionistic, because mistakes are bound to occur, but we must ensure that no harm is done. my preceptor also always tell me "you must do/tahan this, for your patient, because that's your job." after 9 months in healthcare, i realise that i am not as noble as what i hoped i can be. i can give up my time to stay back and finish work, or help out if the ward is busy. i can skip my lunch or dinner just to make sure the things that the dr wants it to be done are completeed by the time he/she review the patient later in the day. i can hold back my urine or shit for the whole shift, just to ensure that my patients get their procedures done, or just to make sure they are discharged on time. but i can no longer stand being unhappy for things that occurred as a result of poor system/miscommunication/unclear p&p, or even just out of pure unfortunate.

9th month as a registered nurse coming 23rd May, and additional responsibilities have already been assigned over the past few months. Will be involved in 3 events (quite important for the hospital for this year) and 1 more in September that I am quite looking forward to! 2nd half of year 2011 and coming year 2012 look fulfilling and exciting! Cant help to feel a little worried initially that I won't be able to handle, but after all, I will be doing things that I have been trained to do for the past four years, just that now it's in a different setting. I will be fine, I will be fine!

thinking about my future in nursing has been a frequent activity on the bus journey home for the past few days... being in the clinical side might not be what i want for the long term, and i don't even think i can stay long. i don't like doctors tapping on my shoulder and asking for case notes or clinical charts; i don't like kitchen staff and housekeeper pestering me for non-urgent information when i'm busy; i don't like working with HOs who talk to nurses rudely and hang up our calls. i don't like how the hospital is being managed like a hotel; i don't like how things are not changed even if it has been voiced out.

i dislike how the recent batch of HOs has been treating the nurses rudely. ok, i don't mind if you scold if it's nurses' fault, but some things are really beyond our control. do you think i really want to call you to set a plug/take bloods? i feel useless myself for not being able to do these things. being in a backward (or over-protective, in a nicer way) hospital, i feel handicapped and embarrassed for not being able to do these. i wish i could, so that i won't need to listen to your rude reply. i wish i could order simple medicine and drips, so that i won't need to call you when my patient is having cough, runny nose, pain. there're just too many limitations we're facing.

i dislike being a degree nurse with no experience, because certain colleagues happen to have some extra time to do extra things beyond their JD. perhaps they have not adapted to singapore's meritocracy system.

i dislike how the hospital has been focusing on ways to improve the service. it's good to know that the patients appreciate the doctors and nurses. i like the word "appreciate", because it feels sincere to me. but it's really a bit over when the management set up prizes, awards, and now even bonus to encourage staff to ask patients to compliment them in the feedback form. "it's internationally recognised, so you all must really put in the effort!" Oh, and Service Quality and Service from the Heart sessions? i've attended one and i think it's enough. i'm sorry, these are really a waste of time to me. Service from the Heart, i don't need you to teach me on that. and i still prefer the word patient to client.

i dislike how the management is ignoring (or still unaware of) the problems we're facing. i dislike and don't understand how they can be so proud of the hospital when there are still so many flaws that has been there for years.

i admit that i also dislike myself for being an incompetent nurse.

This is probably the only photo of the family taken together at Simei where we gather every CNY. Things are not going to be the same next year, with 二姨's absence and 小舅's decision to sell the flat. Next year's CNY will definitely be very different.

I have only seen my sister's brother-in-law (right) twice. 虽然跟他不熟，但是疼爱老婆孩子的男人就是好人. He had only turned 33 for less than a month when he passed away after a fall in the toilet. His second daughter was only 2 months old then.

Back from 二姨's wake.

I remember it was only 3 months ago, right after I returned from my Sabah trip, when ma told me that 二姨 was diagnosed with kidney cancer. She was already in stage IV then. Within these 3 months, the cancer has metastasized to her lungs and liver.

While folding the 金银纸 just now, I realised that my 舅舅s and 阿姨s have aged... They looked much much older than what I remember. This was something that I hadn't noticed over the years (probably because everyone dyed their hair during CNY, thus looking younger). 三舅 has started to bald terribly. 二舅母 has always been 慈祥- looking, not so haggard-looking like today. Even 小姨, whom I thought is the youngest-looking among my ma' siblings, looked much older than her actual age.

Every year during CNY, I can't help but wonder whether it will be the last time I am having reunion dinner with my parents. And while I celebrate my parents' birthday with them every year, will it also be the last birthday that we celebrate for them?

and most importantly, be a happy nurse! (=happiness)

on a side note... i think i didnt really change a lot since the first time i put on the grad gown and mortarboard (when i was 6), did i? 脸还是超臭的!

Sabah trip 2010- Day 7 & 8

Day 07- 22/05/2010

The highlight of the trip finally arrived!

The day began at the park headquarters, where we were issued with the climbing permits...

It was then a short minibus ride to the official starting point- Timpohon Gate!

Set off!

The first part of the Climb was basically trekking along the rainforest trail with man-made steps.

The segment after the Layang-Layang pondok was a contrast to the previous rainforest trail. The terrain was replaced scrubby forest and rocky clayish ground, making the climb more taxing with the uneven track. View along the track was often obscured by heavy cloud...

Trees were bare of any leaves...

The Climb continued upwards to the plateau at 3273m where Laban Rata awaited!

It was then a sumptuous buffet dinner at Laban Rata. Slept at one of the huts, all of which were dormitory style, with two bunk beds to each room...

Day 08- 23/05/2010

Woke up at 1.30am and set off at around 2 am!

The Climb from Laban Rata began with staircases built on the rock inclines...

After clambering up the endless flight of stairs, we emerged onto a small rocky plateau. A white rope that accompanied us to the Low's Peak began here. The rope was used to pull ourselves up parts of the treacherous rockface. A totally exhilarating experience!

We reached the Sayat-Sayat checkpoint, where our permits and registration were checked.

The gradient became steeper from this point. The actual terrain was flat, but climbers have to bend low to keep our balance. There was no defined trail from this point...

Altitude took its toll as rests became more frequent... The Climb became quite frustrating from here, because each time we thought we were near the top after what seemed to be a long climb, another long uphill presented itself... However, the view over the clouds and the valleys below were simply breathtaking and made all the effort worthwhile! :>

The distinct outline of the Low's Peak became apparent! The views in all directions were stunning even before reaching the top of Low's Peak, the South Peak in particular, which was very distinctive. The experience of seeing sunrise at almost 4000m is beyond description. All the effort were worth it. Awe-inspiring!

The descent

It was harder to walk downhill than it is to climb uphill, totally...

Had a hearty breakfast at Laban Rata and we continued with the descent...

Sore legs were the limiting factors on the way down. The descent was made even more challenging with the rainstorm that hit halfway! And renowned for its flora and fauna, we encountered snake and the longest earthworms I've ever seen in my life on our way back to the starting point...

We reached the Timpohon Gate, registered with the park authorities that we've completed the climb, and took the minibus back to park headquarters... It was then a long ride back to KK Times Square...ZZZ

庆功宴!

The success of the highlight of the Sabah trip really called for a celebration!

The original plan of driving to the Tip of Borneo for day 9 was changed to hiring someone to drive us there because it's quite dangerous for us to drive there ourselves when we couldn't even walk properly...

All of us were zonked out after a long day so everyone turned in early that night...

Day 6 breakfast was simple and quick with milo and tiger biscuits...

We left Kuala Penyu after a short tea break at a coffeeshop (weather was blooooody hot as usual) and reached KK city after a dont-know-how-long van ride...

Unpacking, slacking & washing up took up some time after checking-in. Then, ah man sok came and brought us out for late lunch!

It was then a short walk to Centrepoint to buy some climbing stuff that we still lack- jacket, poncho, energy bar etc etc.

Team applying of mopiko outside guardian and slacking at starbucks were the activities for the afternoon...

It was then a short walk to the waterfront. We missed the sunset again! Nevertheless, nice photos were taken there!

Evening was spent at the Cock and Bull pub again! 4 Heinekens and 1 orange juice (for the alcohol-free david dumb) + yong tau foo for dinner that night...

We went to hunt for our climbing shoes after the drinking session...

After all the shopping, ah man sok came to fetch us again! It was then a ride to ah man sok's 豪宅 to collect some of our climbing stuff that were lodged at his house before we left KK city 4 days ago...

Day 6 ended uneventfully... Kinda short because travelling took up most of the time (from Pulau Tiga back to KK city)... I admit that the travelling drained away most of my energy, and i think i was the first one to turn in for the night (despite drinking starbucks coffee that afternoon). So... i have no idea what happened that night! Oh, as for highlight of the day... the super nice chicken rice, probably? :>

第五天了...

Breakfast was french toast and milo prepared by chef chin! :> i love french toast!

Itinerary for the day was going to the volcano mud area and snorkeling!

While walking to our destination, we met a tourist who went to the volcano mud earlier than us. Remembered he used the word "magnificent" to describe...

I actually thought it would be a big and spacious mud pool, warm and bubbling... But it wasn't as big as i imagined it to be... Probably about half the size of a basketball court? (correct me if i'm wrong!) Nevertheless, it was really a great experience swimming in the volcano mud (hmm, not exactly swimming, because we were actually floating!) because some areas were indeed a bit warm, and bubbling!~~ :>

Some background info of Pulau Tiga taken off the web:

Pulau Tiga means "Island of Three" in English as three islands actually make up Pulau Tiga Marine Park. They are Pulau Tiga itself, and two adjacent uninhabited islands of Pulau Kalampunian Damit or better known nowadays as Snake Island and Pulau Kalampunian Besar. Pulau Tiga is one of the more popular islands in Borneo courtesy of the CBS Reality Show "Survivor I", which was conducted and filmed there in 2000.

Pulau Tiga was formed on September 21, 1897 when a large earthquake on the Philippine island of Mindanao triggered a volcanic eruption just north of Borneo. The eruption of mud and rock formed a new island 66 feet (20 meters) wide. Over the next four decades, subsequent eruptions of the volcano and the development and eruptions of two additional adjacent mud volcanoes expanded, coalesced, and formed the island in its current state. The last eruption of the mud volcanoes on the island was in 1941 but warm mud continues to ooze from these geothermal vents on the island.

There is no significant eruptions since then. The only volcanoes the current generation knows about at Pulau Tiga is the loosely-termed "mud volcanoes". Not the eruptive kind but a pool of bubbling mud from deep inside the earth. The mud volcano was made famous by the TV show where one Survivor tribe had a volcano mud bath. For visitors, many think that a soak in the pool of volcanic mud will cleanse and beautify the skin.

So we applied the mud GAO GAO on our face...

After dont-know-how-long, we left the volcano mud area and walked back to the sea to wash the mud off, hoping to see a smoother and more radiant skin~~

Snorkeling was next on the itinerary, but as the snorkeling equipments were only allowed to be rented to registered visitors, we didn't manage to snorkel... POOR DAVID DUMB! Didn't get to snorkel at all in this trip! hahaha~ No wonder he looked so bu shuang!

So it was another round of slacking/photo-taking/放空 at the beach...

The guys went back to the staff hostel for washing up while kiwi and i explored other parts of the beach~~

Highlight of the day!

After some HTHT & photo-taking, kiwi and i walked back to the staff hostel... Saw a few monkeys walking across the field in front of the staff hostel and we decided to follow them to take photos...

After taking a few photos, the monkeys began making some weird sounds... Some 敌意 sensed, but we didn't walk away immediately... Then, after a few seconds, these bloody monkeys began chasing us! WTH?! I only remembered kiwi and i ran super fast back to the staff hostel at that moment... I even dropped both of my slippers along the way but couldn't be bothered to pick them up! KNS. 两个女生被几只猴子追到狂跑... 什么屁. 糗爆了! RAH! >.<

We ran and reached the hostel safely, sat at the steps, 喘气 and... 狂笑! 虽然超狼狈，不过还蛮好笑的... 真的~~~ 活到二十三岁，还真的是第一次被猴子追... Quite memorable, but still... FREAKING MONKEYS. 气死人了! So it's now Maimouphobia (fear of monkeys), to add on to my Lepidopterophobia (fear of butterflies)... :(

After washing up, it was then lunch time- maggie mee by the beach~

放空/napping/feeding sandflies on the bench were the activities for the afternoon... Relaxing~~

We needed to buy some canned food and drinking water, so we went to this 杂货店 beside the hostel whereby customers need to pull the handle outside the shop that links to a bell in the shop owner's house. Upon hearing the bell, the shop owner will ride a bicycle to the shop and open the shop for you! Cooool~

Couldn't remember how we slacked the whole afternoon away, only remembered poor david dumb being harassed by swarm of flies everywhere he went. hahaha~

After dont-know-how-long, I went out to 吹海风, and kiwi found me so it was another MK (meiqi-kewei) HTHT again~

Other than the 俊男美女 honeymoon couple, a belgium man and a few caucasians whom we saw yesterday, it seemed that we were the only tourists on the island because i dont remember seeing other tourist on the 2nd day (other than the man who described the volcano mud as magnificent...)

Anyway, something that i liked about this trip was that it was really very "rest and relax"... Very unlike previous trips, in which everyday was just 赶赶赶...

The sun set after dont-know-long (again)... We wanted to walk to the cafe to check out if there's beer, but it was dark and we were afraid that the monkeys would 埋伏 and chase us again (paranoia~), so we walked back to staff hostel, hoping to see dinner prepared for us already (hahaha)......

But dinner wasn't prepared so chef chin ke wei cooked again!

Pardon my poor memory, because i really can't recall what we did after dinner before the surprise of the day... oh, remembered ah lian lost his specs that day and was searching everywhere for it...

Surprise of the day!

The original plan: meiqi to talk to kiwi and keep kiwi occupied while the guys prepare the surprise...

What happened that night:

Yihao wasn't feeling well so he slept early~

Kiwi slept super early that night too. hahaha perfect~~~ so ah lian, david dumb and i did some art outside the staff hostel using the lightsticks that ah lian 千里迢迢 brought from Singapore... Julian, louis dan kawan kawan came to help too! niceeee~~~:>

Everything went on smoothly because the 懒猪 (opssss~) didnt wake up (we were worried that kiwi might come out and look for me so louis' friends sat at the door to "把风"... hahaha~~

The masterpiece! :D

After everything was done, ah lian went to wake kiwi up, blindfolded her and brought her to the field... David dumb the guitarist played the birthday song~~

Day 04- 19/05/2010

Day 4 started off with another river cruise tour~ 早晨游河别有一番风味...

Hello david dumb!~

Finally met up with david dumb after we left Klias! Poor david dumb had a terrorizing stay with bedbugs the night after arriving in KK~~ hahaha 可怜!

Kuala Penyu to Pulau Tiga

We arrived at Kuala Penyu after leaving Klias...

The weather was bloody hot so we took out our wet clothes to dry while having lunch... hahaha. 天气热到衣服很快就晒干了!

Met a 俊男美女 honeymoon couple and had lunch with them~

It was then shopping for groceries for our 3 days at Pulau Tiga~

After a jerky 1 hour boat ride (yihao and i 学聪明了. sat at the back of the boat!) , we reached the Survivor Island- Pulau Tiga!

Day 03- 18/05/2010

White water rafting was the activity of the day! After a long but entertaining bus ride with "Bon Jovi", we arrived at Beaufort to take the choo-choo train to the starting point!

Though it was my third time rafting, I was still nervous looking at the rapids along the Padas River during the train journey! Lousy! -____-

Highlight of the day!

Voluntarily jumped into the river once and was thrown off the raft once at one of the rapids (7 rapids altogether- mickey mouse, cobra, washing machine etc cant remember the rest...). Mandi dan minum Padas river banyak banyak...

After the exciting rafting experience, it was then a boat ride back to starting point. Our boat ride was quite safe and enjoyable, but not for the other boat that sank halfway! It was kinda funny listening to how the Caucasians describe the sinking of the boat! hahaha...

Tiger prawns (2 each) + tiger beer= wa seh, uber shiok~~~

"萤虫" (quoted from one tourist) viewing at night was special as 4 of us were the only ones on the boat! Fireflies on the trees were pretty~~ 有点像圣诞树!

Supper was prepared specially for us too (because we were the only tourists who stayed there overnight)! But we were still full from the dinner so it was another round of 放空/playing with cats/feeding mosquitoes at the dining area~

Day 3 ended early after washing up as we were all super drained from rafting!

Sabah trip 2010- Day 2

Day 02- 17/05/2010

Breakfast

Sun rises early in Sabah. The sky was bright and blue by 6 plus...

Since the shop that sells 好吃的面包 is just a short 5 min walk from the hotel, we went there again for breakfast on the 2nd day!

Ah man sok came and sent us to the pier (Jesselton Point). 天气晴朗！超适合到海边玩~ :>

Location: Manukan Island

We reached Manukan Island after a short 20 min boat ride. Itinerary for the day was snorkeling! Being a first-timer, the noob me kept breathing through the nose -___-

It was only 12 plus after snorkeling for quite some time. After having light lunch (biscuits and chips), we continued snorkeling at other parts of the beach.

“我们只来十天而已!”

While resting at the bench, we overheard an auntie telling her husband “我们只来十天而已!” So this became one of our popular phrases whenever anyone nua-ed during the trip (above! hahaha).

Start of the Truth or Dare

We started playing Truth or Dare while snorkeling/slacking. It was more of Truth or Truth, because in the end, everyone chose truth over dare. 接龙game was another activity to pass time.

Highlight of the day- 暴风雨来袭!

Time passed quickly and we were about to return to KK city. It started to rain very heavily halfway through the return boat trip. 可怜的 yi hao and I sat in front of ah lian and kiwi, 帮这对情侣挡风遮雨。大雨打在脸上，大风迎面而来，我们还得用救生衣遮住脸, 简直就是狼狈不堪~~ But thinking back, it was really an exciting experience! Memorable! :>

Ah man sok came to the pier to fetch us back to the hotel despite 4 of us being 落汤鸡. How nice~~

After washing up, it was then a seafood dinner at a nearby seafood place.

Truth or Truth continued

It was then a drinking session at the Cock and Bull pub at the waterfront. The Tiger beer Crystal was really light. Yong Tau Foo was ordered to go along with the beer. The game of truth or truth continued... “Washing” of david dumb on facebook was another activity of the night...

Truth or Dare

Card games were played to pass time after returning to the hotel, followed by the real game of Truth or Dare using the iPhone~

Day 2 ended early after the games as we had to have enough rest for the exciting white water rafting the next day!

Sabah trip 2010- Day 1

Day 01- 16/05/2010

Location: Changi Aiport Terminal 1
飞机场的10:30 (陶喆's song)

The air tickets were booked in November 2009 during the Jetstar promotion (46 SGD only!). It didn’t take me long to make the decision when kiwi asked me, since climbing Mt Kinabalu was what I have always wanted to try.

The 11-days final attachment ended only on the day before the trip. The bag was only packed 12 hours before the flight, and the travel insurance was only bought 10 hours before I set off.

My 4th time in East Malaysia

Due to some commitments, the responsible david dumb could only join us 2 days later. So 4/5 of the Sabah trippers set off happily on a lazy Sunday morning...

We arrived at Kota Kinabalu International Airport at around 1 plus. The exterior of the airport surprisingly resembled that of Miri Airport!

Yi hao’s uncle (or affectionately known to us as ah man sok) came to fetch us. A charismatic and knowledgeable man. 人面超广. Seems to have connections everywhere!

First meal in KK

A simple yet nice dish recommended by ah man sok. Something similar to the 鱼片米粉 in Singapore but the soup base was tomato-flavoured. The fish was really very fresh. And amazingly, the crispness of the fish remained even though it's been soaked in the soap. The chilli sauce was superbly nice too! 好吃!

Another dish made from fish. I'm not a great fan of fish, but I thought this was really quite nice. 热腾腾，香脆可口，一点都不油，吃多了也不腻。赞!

It was another round of eating after lunch. This shop sells nice bread! 虽然已经很饱了, 我们还是抵挡不了这面包的魅力!

It was then a mini tour around KK city and buying of some necessities. 1Borneo shopping mall, streets beside the waterfront etc.

Check-in @ Cititel Express

Room was small but comfy, and the location of this hotel was really quite good.

The rain came and we had to postpone the trip to Manukan Island. Nevertheless, we had our first dinner at the night market (~15 mins walk from Cititel)!

Vaguely remembered the ocip team had our celebration dinner at this place here 6 years ago. Things have pretty much remained the same:

Back to Cititel after a short walk around the waterfront area. Supposed to have card games at the guys' rooms but heart-to-heart talk (HTHT) with kiwi ended very late. So the day ended with the HTHT.

my pa has been coughing for nearly 2 weeks. almost everynight, i hear his coughs till i sleep.

initially, i asked my ma whether pa has seen a doctor. ma said pa refused to see a doctor.

just now i asked pa, and he said he has seen a 中医. and i asked him what the 中医 said. he said 中医 told him it's "风咳". i asked what's "风咳", and ma said "我也不知道，以前大舅也是这样，咳到好为止咯。"

i asked: 为什么看中医
ma: 中医可以调嘛
i asked: 那药呢
ma: 有吃啊
i asked: 那为什么没有好
ma: 哪里有那么快好的

seriously i have NEVER trusted 中医 in treating illness. ok, perhaps sprains, dislocations and improving health, they are better. but for others, i still believe in western medicine? at least symptoms will be controlled in a shorter span of time, at least you won't be waiting for the medicine to take N days/weeks/months/years/decades to 把身体调好, after which then your illness will go away? or you thought you have recovered when in fact you should thank your immune system.

why dont my parents learn their lesson? a few years ago, my sister fell ill, and they brought her to see many 中医s. my sister didn't get any better. Till my sister was really very ill, then they brought her to the hospital. treatment was delayed. she need not undergo all the chemotherapies. but because she went to see 中医s who just prescribed some herbs or medicine to improve her health and told her to "放轻松不要那么压力", treatment was delayed. all because of the 中医s' useless advice.

甲说：“有了名誉，就有一切，就能快乐。”

乙说：“有了爱情，才有快乐。”

丙说：“有了金钱，就能快乐。”

无德禅师说：“那我提个问题：为什么有人有了名誉却很烦恼，有了爱情却很痛苦，有了金钱却很忧虑呢？”信徒们无言以对。

无德禅师说：“理想、信念和责任并不是空洞的，而是体现在人们每时每刻的生活中。必须改变生活的观念、态度，生活本身才能有所变化。名誉要服务于大众，才有快乐；爱情要奉献于他人，才有意义；金钱要布施于穷人，才有价值，这种生活才是真正快乐的生活。”

生命是一种奉献和付出，只有在不停的奉献和付出中，生命才能彰显它的使命和意义。快乐只能在奉献和付出中才能找到，在奉献和付出中，别人的笑脸才能花一样在你身边簇拥着绽放。

shoelaces loosened (ARGH) near F1 pit building. 无奈的蹲下来，绑了个死结.

otherwise, it was quite a peaceful 10km. the weather was really good!

ended the run at 1003am.

then, we were taking photos and walking around padang after the run when we saw the side/backview of a guy kneeling down with a large bouquet of flowers in his hands, in front of a girl. there were even photographers!

this is the thing that kept me moving throughout week 8! 胃下垂 buffet~

i've always enjoyed listening to others' life story. it really makes me respect my friends and elders even more because they are actually much stronger than they look. it also serves as a reminder for me that life is full of up and down, and that at the end of the day, we'll overcome the difficulties.

sometimes i really wonder if my life will be as exciting as theirs. 50 years down the road, will i have the chance to share an exciting story with others?

LH asked me why I keep putting songs on my blog. And she say she dont like. OKAY! So I’ll blog about my exciting Monday. but before that, if u want to know why i keep putting songs on my blog- i used to think that i express myself better in blogging than speaking. but nowadays i feel that i cant express myself in blogging like i used to be in the past. maybe i've advanced to a higher level of antisocial-ness. or maybe it's just tt i dont feel as comfortable telling people what i feel. so to keep the blog alive, i posted songs that i like, particularly the lyrics.

28/09/09:

1030hrs: @ home. woke up and realized I missed the time that I was supposed to wake up (which is 1000hrs) even though I set 2 alarms. My hp displayed 3 missed calls and 2 smses. Replied the calls.

1230hrs: @ bedok printing my IRB application. After meddling with the shop’s laptop, I realized the shop’s laptop couldn’t read my thumb drive. Called LH for help. Heard her “just woke up” voice.

1330hrs: @ LH’s hse. Printed my stuff.

1400hrs: Cabbed to KKH. cab fare $8.40. i asked the cab driver to drop me at the taxi stand but he asked me whether i want to drop at the women's 24 hrs clinic (which is also KKH's A & E). was thinking is it because he thought i wanted to see a Dr (maybe i looked too tired) or he thought i wanted to visit a patient in the A & E (maybe i looked too gan jiong).

1405hrs: @ delivery suite. Met my site PI (principal investigator) to get her CITI and signature. Told her about the changes made to the application form.

1420hrs: @ KKH research centre. Clarified all the doubts with the staff. I even asked if I could photocopy 10 copies of the form (which is required for IRB submission) in their office. Had to be super thick skinned when I asked the staff. but I was rejected. :(

1440hrs: @ KKH division of nursing. Met with the ADON (assistant director of Nursing) and told her my research study outline before I can get her to sign and approve my research. Anyway, I was told that the money that I spent on this research (printing the questionnaires) will not be reimbursed because it’s not stated in the contract that i signed 2 yrs ago. But I was told that I would need to present the results of my research after completing it next year. Not reimbursing me and yet want me to present my results.

1500hrs: bused to little india mrt station. Could have walked but no time to lose as i made an appointment with the very busy associate supervisor Prof DC at 1545hrs.

1530hrs: reached harbourfront. realised i was going to be late for the appointment. Cabbed to E3A. the cab driver wanted to take AYE but i told him to take the bus 188 route, as i thought that it would be faster. i really should have listened to him. cab fare $8.20.

1550hrs: Reached E3A. Prof DC still meeting SH. Waited while i ate my chocolate bun (that was the first meal of the day, excluding the coffee in the morning. Luckily I had a 胃下垂 buffet dinner last night!)

1600hrs: my turn to meet Prof DC. She made changes to 2 sections of the application form on the spot. And said "Good luck. I think it'll be fine."

1645hrs: stayed @ ALCNS to make the changes to the application form. and had to be thick skin again. Asked whether i could print my form in the office. Not rejected!:)

1735hrs: bused to Clementi MRT station.

1755hrs: @ Clementi MRT station.

1845hrs: @ pasir ris MRT station. bought a bottle of drink fom 7-11 because the favourite OCK has too many fellow supporters.

1910hrs: reached tutee's hse 10 mins late.

the timings are mostly accurate. because it was so rush for me that i kept checking the time every 5 minutes.

anyway, i realised i have not been jogging for nearly 2 months! i need to resume my healthy lifestyle if not im going to collapse in the 10km this December! i put myself on DNR a few days ago. but i'm changing my mind now please resuscitate me if i collapse in front of you. i dont want my poor sister (who is my guarantor) to be in debt.

1) nursing is REALLY a small community. my associate supervisor (Prof DC) happens to be the ex-supervisor of my KKH site supervisor!

2) too many late night pia-ing of IRB application and proposal is taking a toll on my health, and my eyesight, and my back, and my neck.

3) i saw some cane marks on my tutee's limbs today. i wonder if i had somehow played a part in it. if i had been more strict with him, maybe he would have treated the tuition seriously, and be more conscientious about his schoolwork.

being a not-very-into-watching-movie person, i watched two movies in the past week. how cool!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

期待已久的电影! 可是观看后,其实是有那么一点点的小失望.

too much of the plot revolved around romance. I really expected more action! The fight at the astronomy tower was seriously far too short. the explanation of the Horcruxes was brief, and where's Dumbledore's funeral!

but overall, i still enjoyed the movie!:) okay, biased thought. HAHA. anw, i just love the Harry Potter mood that day!:):) cauldrons of popcorn! and i even saw a man wearing a gryffindor scarf!

despite being a happy tree friends fan, i find this movie kinda sadistic.

BUT! the twist was REALLY unexpected!

thank you gerkie, pat and xin ying for the wonderful taiwan trip! i really really enjoyed myself during the trip! :):) and i guess we were really fortunate to have survived the 2 weeks (seeing how blur the 4 of us were. 没有被坏人抓去卖!). may our wishes written on the 天灯 come true!:)

i think i am getting worse by the day. this sucks.

it has happened many times tt i suddenly woke up from my nap on the bus journey home, because i will suddenly rmb that i have forgotten to do something/ follow up on something again. this feeling really sucks. i really hate myself whenever this happens.

i dont want to do things for the sake of doing it. i dont want to finish my ttop with the nurses in the ward questioning about nus nursing standards. i dont want to create an impression that nus nurses are not competent at all.

sometimes i do hope tt my preceptor will fail me and make me extend my ttop, so that i can really learn my lesson and check everything thoroughly. but it doesnt really help if i extend my posting since i will not passing out this july, because by the time i pass out next year, everything will be back to square one, and i will be the same blur me again. or will i really improve if i extend my ttop?

sometimes the defensive me will have the thinking that forgetting something is not entirely my fault, since the previous shift nurse did not do her job properly, resulting in my increased confusion.

sometimes the defensive me will also have the thinking that there are also some staff nurses in the ward who are as forgetful, and not competent enought although they are already stamping their names as "registered nurse".

sometimes the defensive me will also think that can it be even considered entirely my fault when my preceptor didnt realise the mistake too?

sometimes the defensive me will also have the thinking to blame it screwed curriculum for giving us such a short ttop posting. not all nus students are fast learners. i am not a fast learner. 4 weeks is definitely too short for me. YOU can say that we need not take so many cases in a mth, but WE are afterall passing out as staff nurses. who the hell cares whether our TTOP posting is shorter than NYP students, that's why WE are not as competent as the NYP graduates in handling cases? and what's more when we are getting higher pay than NYP nurses? do you think the DON ADONs and whatnots will be that understanding?

but i know all these are just my excuses.

sighs. whatever. it's coming to an end. i shall forget about these frustrations by tmr morning. i shall be more positive for tmr's morning shift. I WILL MAKE SURE I CHECK THROUGH MY THINGS BEFORE GG HOME TMR!

it has been a stressful 2 weeks. i wanted to type something to describe how i feel. how i feel as if im fighting a war everyday. how stressed i am everyday that i have to take panadol at the start of the shift because of the headache that i have almost everyday. how stressed i am that i dont even feel hungry when it's past meal time. how angry i am with myself when i suddenly remembered on the journey back home that i have forgotten to do something (again) that i am supposed to do.

i really hope i can be more competent.

anyway, i really love some of the makciks in my ward. i will really smile from the bottom of my heart whenever they hold my hand and say "thank you missy" :)

mama koh asked me what she needs to go through with me for my TTOP. so i told her about skills, reflections, case presentation, SCAT aka SCARED form. and she said she's stressed. i told her im the stressed one, because 4 weeks is seriously too short. and she actually gave me the doubtful look and said i look very relaxed!

oh!! i saw the baby that i bathed during my paeds posting! saw him at the kkh bus stop with his mummy! big boy now with hair~~:):) and the mummy still remembers me! by the way she was the one who said that i look like a clown -_-

im back to KKH ward 44 for the final posting!

anyway, i was quite happy over the weekend as i thought that the 'mama koh' whom the staff nurse told me on saturday when i went to get the roster was the dear lydia sum look-alike sister koh. but apparently there are 2 koh's in ward 44! -_-. anyway, the real mama koh is also very motherly. i like:) oh anyway... these few days 又给 sister koh 摸了几下-_-.

oh i finally did urinary catheterization! and i realised that OSCE did really help as i was quite familiar with what i need to prepare and do.

anyway... i failed my wound dressing for osce! argh! i passed something that i have never done before in clinicals but failed something that i have always been doing during attachments. curse the S4A lab for providing lousy dressing sets for our practice.

i heard the thunder, and not long after that, i was performing cpr. please try not to go out on rainy days.

6 of us did our first CPR on a real person yesterday. but we did last office for the patient as well..

besides doing the compression and the counting, at that moment, it was really totally concentrating on saving the patient. i guess yesterday was the first time in the past 3 years that i really experienced the feeling of being a nurse. 25/03/09.

ED is not that bad afterall:). but i guess with my tortoise speed, i will find myself out of job very soon if i work in ED.:(

and, argh. im mixing up my hokkien with my super broken cantonese. im confused with what im saying, and im confusing the patient as well.
